Our History

The Republican State Children's  Library was established on January 1, 1965 by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the basis of the public library fund named after M. Gorky.

 From September 12, 1967, according to the decree No. 25 (§22) of the Central Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Firidun Bey Kocherli, an Azerbaijani literary critic, pedagogue, educator, founder of children's folklore anthology, who had important services in the development of children's literature and constantly fought for the purity of the literary language of Azerbaijanis named. Nemet Aliyev was the first director of the library, which started its operation with 5 departments-service, bookkeeper, collection, methodology and exchange fund. At the time the library was founded, its fund consisted of only 43,000 copies of literature, 27,337 of which were children's literature. In the early 60s, there were 88 independent children's libraries in Azerbaijan and 22 in Baku. During these years, methodical management of children's libraries was not formed as a single and complete system. The creation of the Republican Children's Library was a serious step forward in the formation of the library service for children and its methodical support system. Thus, as a result of the establishment of the Republican Children's Library named after F. Kocherli, a republican methodical center of library service for children was created. Methodical guidance was provided to libraries serving children, including more than 3,000 school libraries. Finally, the creation of a methodical center for children's libraries created a legal, theoretical, methodical and organizational basis for coordinating the activities of the libraries serving this work and functioning as a complete system. In order to organize the scientific-methodical activity of the Republican Children's Library on the basis of the latest achievements of library science, a rich methodological publication fund was created in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Rich literature reflecting all the theoretical, methodical and practical achievements and advanced practice of library service to children was collected in the fund. The Republican Children's Library is a leading institution in the field of librarianship, bibliography, bibliography, performs the functions of a scientific-methodical center for all children's libraries in the republic, providing library-bibliography, information service, inter-library subscription, recommended bibliography to readers. Since its establishment, the Republican Children's Library has initiated joint events with other groups, organizations and non-governmental organizations, along with extensive socio-cultural activities. In 1990, an experimental children's theater studio "Korpam" was established under the library and a children's magazine called "Korpam" was founded. Since 2006, the name of the magazine has been changed and published under the name "Rainbow". In 1995-2005, AzTV children's programs "Chirag" and "Free Thought" were filmed in the reading room of the library. Since 1999, the Republican Children's Library is a member of the Azerbaijan Librarians' Society. In 2002, the library's official website was launched under the domain name www.childlibbaku.org, and in 2006, the domain name was changed to www.clb.az. On January 12, 2004, signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, "On the implementation of mass publications in the Azerbaijani language with Latin script", dated December 27, 2004, "Works intended to be printed in the Azerbaijani language with Latin script in 2005-2006" on the approval of the list" was a new stage in the development of library work. In 2004, at the suggestion of the Republican Children's Library, the "Help to Children's Libraries" section was opened in the "Medani-Maarif" magazine, and the methodical materials compiled by the scientific-methodology department were published in every issue of the magazine. Since 2005, F. The Republican Children's Library named after Kocherli is successfully carrying out the processes of transferring the fund to electronic information carriers and creating an electronic catalog using AKIS (Automated library-information system) software. On October 6, 2008, the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev on the approval of the "State Program for the development of the library-information field in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2008-2013" initiated a new stage in the development of library work. Representatives of the embassies of twenty countries operating in our country presented more than 1,500 books to the Republican Children's Library at the International Book Fair "Pearls of World Children's Literature" in connection with the "Year of the Child" in 2009. In 2010, the Republican Children's Library moved to a new building that meets modern requirements. In 2011, on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the "Dervis Susic" Public and University library of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republican Children's Library named after F. Kocherli were declared "Twinned Libraries". As a result of this, the International Interlibrary Subscription Section is connected with the Crimean Tatar Library named after I. Gasprinski, the National Children's Library of Moldova named after Ion Kryange, the National Children's Library of Ukraine, the Serbian library, many libraries of Turkey, the State Children's Library of Russia, the Gothenburg City Library of Sweden and the Stockholm International Library. also created international relations, participated in international book fairs. Since 2012, the Republican Children's Library named after F. Kocherli is a member of the International Children's Book Council (ICBC). Since 2013, the Republican Children's Library named after F. Kocherli has published "Firidun bey Kocherli" , "Ilyas Tapdig" , "Abdulla Shaiq" , "Abbas Sahhat" , "Mir Mehdi Seyidzade" , "Tofiq Mahmud" from the series "From the treasure of children's literature" .  It publishes bibliographic books "Khanimana Alibeyli" , "Mikayil Rzaguluzade" , " Azerbaijani Children's Literature of the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century (until 1920)" .
